Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Tacoma’s North Proctor district, Viva Tacoma is a standout destination for those seeking an elevated plant-based dining experience. Specializing in vegan, gluten-free, halal, organic, and vegetarian cuisine, this restaurant masterfully crafts dishes that are as thoughtful as they are flavorful.
From the moment you step inside Viva Tacoma, the welcoming ambiance — bright, comfortable, and spacious — invites you to savor every bite and relax over good food and great company. The menu features a dynamic range of thoughtfully prepared dishes that showcase how diverse and indulgent vegan fare can truly be.
Start your meal with a generous helping of Nachos Supreme, a family-sized delight piled high with seasoned walnut meat, black beans, jalapeños, and corn. As described by regular diners, these nachos are nothing short of fantastic — a must-try for newcomers and longtime vegans alike. Another favorite appetizer is the Cauliflower Wings: crisp, pan-fried cauliflower florettes tossed in your sauce of choice, delivering a perfect blend of crunch and zest that challenges even traditional wing aficionados.
For something heartier, the entrées shine with creativity and richness. The ChickUn Fettuccine Alfredo features seasoned breaded tofu laid atop silky fettuccine noodles, complemented by broccoli, grilled onion, and sun-dried tomato in a luxuriously creamy Alfredo sauce. Though some guests note that the name can be a bit misleading, since the protein is tofu, the dish wins praise for its satisfying flavors and indulgent mouthfeel. Another standout is the Thai Peanut Stir Fry, where stir-fried tofu and fresh vegetables mingle with a savory ginger peanut sauce, served alongside fragrant jasmine rice — a harmonious balance of Asian-inspired flavors and wholesome ingredients.
The salad and sandwich selection bring fresh, vibrant options like the crisp Caesar Salad with romaine, housemade croutons, and parmesan that's generously tossed with shredded carrots and ripe tomatoes. Or the Taco Salad, layered with walnut meat, pico de gallo, and creamy cilantro lime crema, delivering textures and flavors that dance on the palate.
A meal at Viva Tacoma would be incomplete without sampling their decadent Garlic Cheese Bread—a toasted baguette crowned with whipped French herb and cheese butter and paired with a side of hot marinara that invites you to savor every decadent bite.
Patrons often commend the attentive and knowledgeable staff, highlighting servers like Chris, whose hospitality adds an extra layer of warmth and charm to the dining experience. Whether you’re a committed vegan, curious carnivore, or someone with dietary restrictions, the inclusive menu accommodates diverse palates with open arms and expert care. As one guest shared, even non-vegetarians have been "blown away" by the authenticity and depth of flavor.
Viva Tacoma is more than just a restaurant; it’s a culinary celebration of plant-based living, marrying health-conscious ethos with crave-worthy tastes and an inviting atmosphere. Whether you drop in for a casual lunch, a romantic dinner, or a family gathering, you’ll find that this gem of Tacoma delivers on both quality and a heartfelt dining experience that keeps guests coming back for more.
I went to this place with my wife and a friend. We had the nachos, the Hawaiian pizza, the the chicken fettuccine alfredo, and some cheesy garlic bread. The nachos are fantastic and I would recommend that anybody come to try them. The chicken fettuccine alfredo, except for it is improperly titled. The protein in it was fried tofu, and should be titled as such. Otherwise, it was really good. I would not recommend any of the other items we ate. They were disappointing. The service was decent. It was a Sunday morning and there was only one server. I would have enjoyed more check-ins, but when he was available, they were pleasant interactions. They also don't have soda on the menu, which should be changed, because soda would go perfectly with the nachos. The bathrooms are clean and the environment is welcoming. Overall, it is an expensive restaurant, but I would come back for the nachos.
We were coming from a long day of everything and decided to eat here. Our server Chris was absolutely amazing! He was on it, he was knowledgeable and entertaining. Really made our night! And easily a reason to return! Food was pretty good too! I had the Philly cheese steak (minus the nut-based cheese). As a non-vegetarian, I was absolutely blown away how tasty it was. Chris ensured that my nut-allergy was taken into consideration. Absolutely loved my visit here and will have to start making more frequent trips!
Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for vegan food, especially if you’re wondering how good it can be. Food was delicious, service was outstanding, and the dining room was beautiful with plenty of seating. If you think you want a cupcake, think hard because the gluten-free versions might disappoint you — go for a truffle or a bar, or slice of cake instead.
First time here for breakfast was very pleasant. It was nice that my vegetarian wife could order anything off the menu. Most dishes had nuts so be careful if you have allergies. All dishes where labeled and staff was very knowledgeable about ingredients. We will be back for the dinner menu soon
This might be my new favorite restaurant! We tried four dishes and three desserts and every single thing was delicious. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and really fun to talk to. I'll definitely be coming back.
Just arrived in WA and was looking for a vegan & gf place to eat on my way to the parks and I’m EXTREMELY glad I stopped here. Viva has so many delicious quality made items on their menu. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. I was honored to meet the owner, Nancy, and she was so passionate and inspiring. My partner and I got the nachos and mushroom melt sandwich and WOW. I have no words. Probably the best food I’ve had and I feel good afterwards from eating such quality food items. Even the presentation of the food was beautiful. I feel everything is appropriately priced. I grabbed a ton of pastries to go for while I’m in WA for the week. So far the brownie did not disappoint! Would definitely recommend this to anyone, vegan or not. Will be stopping by on my way out :)
Most AMAZING VEGAN food I’ve had in a while!! Not only vegan but also organic and gluten free and the food is so deliciously seasoned and prepared. We had stuffed cremini mushrooms app which comes with baguette toasts it was incredible! I had the mushroom melt sandwhich that’s comes with an AU jus dip that’s soy based. My husband had an Italian personal pizza that was so tasty. Generous portions we could not finish it. But we saved room for dessert because their dessert case is stunning I wish I got a photo of it but every cake, cookie, cupcake is beautiful. We opted for the cookies and cream cake - a giant slice that we shared. Outstanding! I wish we lived closer to this place but I will definitely be back next time we are in town. Cannot recommend enough! Edit to add that we returned the next day and ordered raw enchiladas- so fresh and vibrant deliciousness! And the portobello sandwich that was hearty and delicious.
